TRADITIONAL DANCES AS NATION IDENTITY MUST BE PRESERVED

Traditional Dances as Nation Identity must be preserved by the young generation.
Phenomenon concerning with traditional dances and ways to preserve traditional
dance in the process of advanced era are the prominent points discussed. We
know that western modern dance innovations threaten traditional dance existence
in our country. Traditional
dance is our country’s cultural heritage so, we need to preserve it. Because, today’s lifestyle is heavily influenced by modern
culture such as modern dances, by doing so, not only the younger generation
has much to learn to preserve the traditional dance but also the responsibility of the government is important.
Secondly, we cannot deny that the young
generation to learn about the traditions in modern dance, such as Ballet,
tapping, acrobatic, hip-hop, experimental (free style) for improvisation
techniques and body mapping. But, on the other hand, we will lose
characteristic of Indonesian nation step by step. Therefore, the young
Indonesian people should also comply with other traditional dance such as
martial arts (SILAT), mask dance, and dances from various regions in Indonesia,
such as Javanese dance, Balinese dance, Papua Dance, Borne dance, Timor Dance,
Sundanese dance, etc.
Thirdly, if the traditional dance of Indonesian is the
answer to solidifying our nation’s identity, we must get the mass media to promote
our traditional dance and should also be exhibited in Indonesian showbiz, such
as dance performances to accompany the songs, live music or entertainment. Why?
Because to it is the reason to build the character of Indonesian young people
to understand about how important we preserve the identity of our nation. On
the other hand, it is the responsibility of the government to add the traditional
dance in the learning curriculum at each level of education.
Finally, Indonesian traditional dances are so beautiful, why
would we learn dances from other countries? It is so easy to find beautiful
dances in our own country, from Sabang to Merauke. The young people have
actually started to appreciate their cultural heritage, especially traditional
dances. As we get smarter, we realize the importance of preserving our own
culture. Smart people won’t just adapt other people’s culture to keep up with
the trends. Indonesian government must build a mission to help preserve the
country’s cultural heritage. In today’s fast-paced, modern society, it is easy
to assume that young people don’t really care about culture and tradition. One
person, however, thinks that this is not necessarily the case.
To conclude, just
as a building needs a strong foundation to stand tall, a nation would crumble
into smithereens without its cultural roots. The traditional dances of
Indonesia provide us with the opportunity to build a stronger nation identity
while preserving the country’s diverse cultures at the same time. The identity of Indonesia has become
something that most citizens have taken for granted. Too often, we have relied
on outsiders’ outdated impression of Indonesia to be used as an identity for
our country. This resulted in a shallow and inaccurate understanding of
Indonesia not just for foreigners but Indonesians as well. The answer of
problem is depending on the responsibility of all of Indonesian people. The main
goal was to train future dancers. My parents and your parents are getting old.
So, who are the actor to preserve our nation Identity ?
